Wilderness Opening Reception
WILDERNESS is the first solo show of Shannon Lee Molter’s work. It is an illustration of liminality - an eco-somatic space for finding odd kin, who tell their stories of longing in the familiar, historical and imaginary.
The exhibition features leather tapestries made with cowboy boot techniques, naturally dyed silk and rawhide. While sewing with skin, Shannon playfully remaps the human-made boundaries between science and storytelling to critique which truths are useful in an exploitative society, estranged from body and planet. Loosen your grip to engage with “animal” as both metaphorical tool and literal relative.
Wilderness is the dangerous forest of folktales, it is Rousseau's darling “nature,” the unknown into which Adam and Eve are driven after original sin; wilderness it is otherness mythologized. Above all, it is the fictional site of separation; the space far from home in between understandings. Shannon offers hands-on experiences with a pantheon of natural materials, inviting us into a space full of potential, to make meaning together.
Join us for the opening reception Friday April 4th 6-8pm at Tooth + Nail Gallery 2018 S 1st Street Suite 308, Milwaukee, WI.

Trial in the Woods
The Closing Reception for Shannon Molter’s Solo Exhibition Wilderness is an animal mask making workshop and improvisational performance of Stephanie Barber's "Trial in the Woods"
Pay-What-You-Can, $20 suggested donation, $30 suggested if you come early to create a mask.
On the morning of the 5th gibbous moon, Ovelia Otter attacks and kills Pennstin the young wolf at Bear Chondra's Mix Flow Get Up And Go exercise class. That same afternoon, Ovelia Otter is brought before a jury of her peers, Judge Bodon Boar presiding. Prosecutor Lynx believes she should be expelled from animal society immediately, while Defense Squirrel S. argues animal instinct ought not to be prosecuted at all. Witness after witness are called to the stand and the forest's animals hang on the trial's every word—most more interested in the spectacle than its outcome. One part crime procedural and one part fable, Stephanie Barber's Trial in the Woods is a bold new play about ethics, the efficacy of punitive justice, and our (human, American) criminal justice system. It's also very, very funny.

“Join me for a stroll down memory lane and you’ll hear about that time I spent Easter Sunday with the Mouth of the South, Jimmy Hart. Or why I chose to take 11 workshops in Theatrical Intimacy Education. Or why I am actively collecting other people's wedding dresses. There is crucial investigation to most of the choices I’ve made while cultivating my artistic voice. However, I’ve also just done it for the plot!
My journey has trotted along from an enthusiastic musical theatre kid to grown musical theatre nerd, autobiographical writer, twice Jeff Award winner, Fringe Festival solo performer/creator, Chicago-based actor/singer/choreographer, cross genre collaborator, and all around ‘professional feelings haver’ weirdo wonder with no pets and 3 plants. A journey of which I am quite delighted and tickled by. Come stroll with me!”

Opening Reception for Strange Touch
Tooth + Nail is thrilled to announce Kota Bowen’s debut solo show “Strange Touch.” Opening August 23rd 6-9pm and running through October 4th.
Kota Bowen is a Milwaukee based artist focusing on ceramic sculpture. This body of ceramic work delves into the complexities of touch and connection, capturing the nuances of this push and pull. Touch can be both welcomed and uncomfortable, a duality they explore through motifs of bodies, hands, teeth, spikes, milk and piss. These elements can embody the slightly uncomfortable. Drawing inspiration from the narrative potency of amphora greek pottery, they aim to provoke contemplation, inviting viewers to question their own perceptions of touch and a deeper understanding of the human experience.
