In this course, students will learn the basics of hand-building with clay. No prior experience is required. Techniques such as slab building, pinching, coiling, and carving will be introduced. We will also learn how to use studio equipment such as the slab roller and extruder. With these techniques it is possible to build anything from vessels to sculptures and beyond. All clay, glazes, tools, and firing fees are included in the cost of the class.
This course will be taught by Emily Schamburek who is a potter who works out of her tiny in-home studio located in Riverwest, Milwaukee. When she’s not working with clay she nanny’s for two boys. She’s inspired by nature and colors that bring pops of joy to everyday life.
One free open studio session during the month of the class is included so that students can practice or complete extra work on their project. Once this four week course is completed, students are eligible to work in T+N’s studio independently during future open studio hours, usually scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays 1-4pm.
Registration is non-refundable less than 14 days before the start date of the class.
