Opening Reception and Live Performance of “It Hurts Now Like It Did Then”

  • Tooth and Nail Studio and Gallery 2018 South 1st Street Ste 308 Milwaukee, WI, 53207 United States (map)

Tooth + Nail Studio and Gallery is proud to present “Screwball,” the solo exhibition of storyteller and performance artist Gina Cornejo. The artist uses personal artifacts in installations and immersive performances to explore memory and nostalgia. We invite you to attend this very special opening reception on Friday October 18th, 2024 from 6-9pm. The show will run from October 18-November 15th.

The show premiere includes refreshments and coffee service from 6-7 pm, which leads into the hour-long performance of “It Hurts Now Like It Did Before,” from 7-8pm. Guests are welcome to come and go as they please but we encourage those who are able to stay for the full performance. 8-9 pm will be a continuation of refreshments, viewings of Cornejo’s films and installations, and speaking with the artist.

We suggest a $10-20 sliding scale donation for the performance but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds support the artist and studio.

Gina Cornejo invites you to be her time travel companions for these stories that transport you between an ill-fated pilgrimage hiking the Camino de Santiago in Portugal and Spain, a 2020 pandemic romance in Asheville, NC, a pivotal July heatwave in Chicago, and the unhinged inner dialogue of relationship purgatory.

★ Live, original, autobiographical performance

★ Semi-immersive storytelling elements via the reception’s coffee service-we only ask you sit and enjoy your drink throughout the performance

★ Adult themes and concepts
