Wilderness Opening Reception

  • Tooth and Nail Studio and Gallery 2018 South 1st Street Ste 308 Milwaukee, WI, 53207 United States (map)

WILDERNESS is the first solo show of Shannon Lee Molter’s work. It is an illustration of liminality - an eco-somatic space for finding odd kin, who tell their stories of longing in the familiar, historical and imaginary.

The exhibition features leather tapestries made with cowboy boot techniques, naturally dyed silk and rawhide. While sewing with skin, Shannon playfully remaps the human-made boundaries between science and storytelling to critique which truths are useful in an exploitative society, estranged from body and planet. Loosen your grip to engage with “animal” as both metaphorical tool and literal relative.

Wilderness is the dangerous forest of folktales, it is Rousseau's darling “nature,” the unknown into which Adam and Eve are driven after original sin; wilderness it is otherness mythologized. Above all, it is the fictional site of separation; the space far from home in between understandings. Shannon offers hands-on experiences with a pantheon of natural materials, inviting us into a space full of potential, to make meaning together.

Join us for the opening reception Friday April 4th 6-8pm at Tooth + Nail Gallery 2018 S 1st Street Suite 308, Milwaukee, WI.
